SAPTA is delighted to bring you our first Parenting Workshop for 2013. This workshop is planned exclusively for parents and is open to all parents from St Andrew’s Junior School.
In the push for digital literacy, St Andrews Junior School children start on personal notebooks for
school by age 9. Yet together with the opportunities, children also face definite risks and even harm. Many
parents worry about harmful content, game addiction, online strangers and media violence; among many
other issues pertaining to physical, emotional and mental health. Parents also struggle with keeping
children away from devices.
This workshop draws upon cutting-edge research to dissect the effects of such exposure, and to
separate risk from harm. At the same time, the speaker draws from established parenting wisdom to help
parents anticipate problems and prepare for them. Parents will receive holistic perspectives of the
issues surrounding video gaming, social media. They will also learn practical parenting strategies to
manage primary school children’s use of technology.
What participants will learn
1. Making media choices to suit your family priorities and prepare your child for school
2. Develop a media plan for your child’s wellness
3. Choosing & using technological tools to execute your media plan
4. Practical ideas to handle primary school children & their education needs
5. Adapting your parenting approach for new media
